DNF at 40%. I don't know, I started out loving this story, but this third installment just can't seem to keep my attention. Maybe because I don't really feel Robert's drive anymore? I know it's still there, it's mentioned enough, but to me he just feels resigned to whatever happens next. Like he only keeps going because there's really nothing else he can do. Which is fine, of course, but in that case I'd like him to ponder it a bit more, so I can worry with him. I also expected more from the prophecy-storyline. There's not much drive in that either. Still, I might try this one again in the future.

Fabulous book with a great ending leaving me wanting more. So enjoyed this series and how apt, reading them during the vote for independence.

Welcome to superior Scottish history. This is not the Bruce as shown in 'Braveheart'. This is way
better. Full on battles and oddly enough a far travelled Bruce (attractions today in brackets) : Turnberry (golf), Islay (whisky) and Ben Cruchan (power station inside a mountain). The wives and kids are sent to Tain (near Inverness. Glenmorangie distillary).
Against Bruce are The Black Cowyn, English knights (including Aymer de Valance who is NOT
VERY NICE) and Edward (Longshanks and his son). oh there is the climax at Bannockburn where it is not a good day for one side. If you are a stranger to Scottish history I'M NOT TELLING.
I recommend this trilogy to people. Read and then watch 'Warrior King' starring Chris Pine.

An epic series with the final book exceeding my expectations. The politics, the changing loyalties, the battles - a wonderful series and one of my favourites.

Quite an epic read of all 3 books. Robert The Bruce has been a hero of mine since I was a teenager - this trilogy paints him warts and all. The other trilogy by Nigel Tranter has quite different picture of some of the characters and relationships, including that with his queen Elizabeth. I had to try to forget some of that to enjoy this and of course no one can know now what was the truth. They don't even know exactly where the actual battle of Banochburn happened.
A great action novel with lots of believable details of life in Scotland of the time.

This wasn't my favourite of the trilogy. I think there was too much happening (too many skirmishes, battles, etc.) in too short a time for me to really get into the story. For whatever reason, I found it harder to keep all of the characters straight in Kingdom than I did for the other 2 books.
