If you can get past the very strong language and rather visceral in your face events described in this story there are many interesting and thought provoking aspects of the novel available to be unpackaged.It seems that every effort is made to render the reader feeling sick inside and possibly violated which is no accident on the author's part. Had it not been part of a class I would not have finished the book as its graphic nature is far beyond my threshold of comfort but that should not be considered a poor reflection of the author. She set out to reframe current trends (such as might be found in the fashion industry) and many common perceptions of the 'other' in a way that her readers would be forced to question and confront these (possibly his/her own) perceptions, and she succeeds in this endeavor.
