If you live in Portland, and you like Chuck Palahniuk you should have already read this book by now.
This book ranks highly for me out of sheer ingenuity. It's unlike any other story I've read. The title refers not, as one might expect, to a computer geek but to a circus geek, a performer, and in particular, the family of "circus freaks" at the center of this story. Al and Lil Binewski have produced a varied brood through their experiments with drugs and other chemicals during pregnancy -- a boy with flippers, conjoined twins, a hunchbacked albino dwarf (our narrator), and a boy whose uniqueness isn't revealed right at birth. The plot is bizarre but coherent and the characters full-fledged individuals with odd relationships to one another -- jealousy, love, dependence.
Ultimately, I found the story depressing and disturbing on many levels, and for that reason I'm not sure if I can say I really enjoyed it. But I can't deny that it's incredibly imagined and wonderfully written, even if the climax -- well, both climaxes -- were a bit over-the-top for me. I'm not surprised that this book, like its character Arty, has developed a cult following of admirers. I'm just not sure who I would possibly recommend it to.

It’s a gnarly and raunchy book, and I’m just not feeling that at the moment! But the story is extremely intriguing and captivating, and very well written! I may come back to it at another time, but for now I’m gonna hold off
some of the turns of phrase in this book will stick with me forever. "that kind of blue sky that pulls your heart out through your eyes". dreamlets! she says something, at one point, about oly's heart turning to "a pile of steaming oatmeal". god!

Idk how i feel about it, certain parts were rly strong, but others like the ending felt underdone and rushed
Have started this book twice. Just couldn’t get into it
Al and Lil Binewski's traveling carnival is struggling and so with the help of a cocktail of chemicals and drugs, they decide to breed their own exhibit of human oddities. This description usually doesn't scream 'must read' for most people but if you can make it that far you are in for a treat. Geek Love features a cast of characters you will not forget.
