I enjoyed reading this book, but it didn't make me think as much as The Vanishing Half.

An intense family drama and personal and up close look at abortion, relationships, religion, and how choices have lasting effects on the characters. I found it to be incredibly nuanced and despite some of the characters not being likable, I think they were complex, and challenging making for a VERY compelling read. Would recommend if you like family drama.

I had really high expectations for this after rating The Vanishing Half highly, but it fell a bit flat sadly. Interesting premise, but I think more could have been done maybe?

Still very excited to read more from Bennett soon hopefully!

I think Brit Bennett just became a new favorite author, and I can’t wait to pick up more from her. This was so incredibly written.

This book made me reflect on the decisions we make and the impact these decisions have throughout our life. Not all passages were memorable, but there were a few lines that stuck out and hit me in the feels. A strong debut novel.
