I feel like a horrible English major, but I just do not like many classic/canon works. Especially from this era--the descriptions are too lofty & in-depth, so the plot seems to get lost. While it did not progress quite as slowly as Frankenstein, I still don't think I would pick this up again any time soon. I only gave it a third star due to enjoying the journal-style writings giving a better depth to the characters. Gothic novels just don't seem to flow with me.

Dracula is a true cornerstone of horror literature, and even after more than a century, its eerie atmosphere and slow, creeping dread still hold up. Bram Stoker’s epistolary format — told through letters, journal entries, and newspaper clippings — gives the novel a unique texture, making the horror feel personal and immediate.
The character of Count Dracula remains iconic for good reason: he’s both mesmerizing and terrifying, a villain who lurks more in the shadows of the narrative than at its center, making every encounter with him feel charged and dangerous. The sense of place, especially the fog-soaked streets of London and the crumbling castles of Transylvania, is rich and vivid.
Some parts of the novel do show their age, especially in pacing and dialogue, which can feel overly formal or drawn out to a modern reader. But that’s part of its charm too — Dracula rewards patience with a thick, immersive sense of Gothic horror that has rarely been matched since.
An essential read for any horror fan, and a fascinating first step into the world of classic vampire fiction.

It's always difficult to rate a classic, especially one that has been adapted and transformed through so many mediums.
So, taking in consideration that my judgment was clouded by that I gave it 4 stars, but for me this was a 3 star read. The main reason is the way that the story has been told, with many different narrators that at times made me lose the interest in it, and the combination of classic narration and epistolary technique was somewhat annoying at times.
However I enjoyed the description, especially at the beginning. And... that's about all I enjoyed.

Less actual Dracula content than I would have suspected and not at all sexy.
