Dearest Rogue

Elizabeth Hoyt

3.85 AVERAGE

Hoyt is the perfect balance of smut and romance. If you want a very sexy historical, but also with a lot of longing looks then Hoyt is your girl. I usually like my books a little more chaste, but I’ve been in a smut mood lately. This filled that need.

Hoyt did a great job of using Phoebe's blindness as a way to remove the obstacles of class between her and James and others.

Amazingly, Phoebe's blindness allows her to see people much better than others of her class. Also, Hoyt did a great job of showing the struggles faced by a blind woman of that time period. Her brother wants to protect her, but limits her life so much, she feels like she is Ina cage.

I truly enjoyed Phoebe's outlook on life--that she has to fall in order to live, but she will be okay. She even laughs when she falls while walking along the moors.

James shows his love for Phoebe by tamping down his own urge to protect her, allowing her to walk on her own, and allowing her to fall.

A great love story.

I’m biased as heck but I loved this book bye Phoebe and James mwah chefs kiss. HE FINDS HER DISTRACTINGLY BEAUTIFUL BRO DISTRACTINGLY. BEAUTIFUL. CMON. This book is just too good literally too good, the kidnappings was funny as heck tho especially the last one like I didn’t expect HIM to go that far but he’s menacing asf anyway so that is to be expected anyway

I liked this one the best of the series so far. The carriage/highway man scene is fantastic. Sex scenes are SOO predictable and boring.

This one was fun! I like Phoebe and James, and I love the happily-ever-after of it all. I feel like it delivered.
Spoiler I wish Phoebe and Maximus had found another way to relate to another. I wish we'd seen him talking to her, understanding her, rather than her yelling at him and him talking to James. I wish we'd seen a bit more of her family's reactions, since we "know" them better from previous books, but I enjoyed the way they both found freedom. I am curious to see how they pop up in future books! I'm glad they're happy but I would like to see Phoebe doing what she's been denied - going out in crowds, dancing at balls, etc.

Awwww Phoebe and James! This was so sweet!

So. many. kidnappings.

This was really really good. I like how both characters have their weaknesses and that they have to go around them. Plus all the sniping. Its hilarious.

I tried. Really, I did. I had enjoyed book 1 (Wicked Intentions), so when book 2 (Notorious Pleasures) didn't do anything for me, I thought maybe it was a fluke. Book 8 (Dearest Rogue) was the next book my library had, and I gave it a go. It just did not work for me at all. I liked Phoebe and Trevillion, and that's all of the positives.

The plot moved so slow I was bored even at 1.4x speed on the audiobook. The plot was so ridiculous (but not in a fun way!) that I just plain gave up. I have no idea who the titular "Rogue" is, but it sure has hell isn't the bland AF Trevillion. DNF.

Audiobook narrator Ashford McNab took the description of "emotionless" Trevillion and decided that meant completely uninflected and monotone. Bad narrator, no cookie.
