I really enjoyed this book. Loved the feels, loved the characters. I did have an issue here and there with the timeline which bothered me, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. But overall, a really good read!

The first third of this book was a hard slog for me. I really thought that I would DNF this one, but alas I pushed through. After the halfway point I really started to enjoy this book, especially once the subplots with the children began. It starts exploring more complex relationships such as Willow and her girlfriend. I enjoyed Bree's optimism and kindness more as the book went on and I really admire her ability to put her relationship to one side and advocate for Julian's kids. The last 10% of this book though... It was as if the ending was rushed and the author just wanted the story over and done with, right as the story was getting good and Bree had finally chosen herself over Julian. Julian was a hard character to like, even in the end. He is controlling, manipulative and worst of all ashamed of Bree. He constantly compares her to his late wife and thinks that any relationship will end the same way as his marriage but then turns around and reminds Bree that she will never be Will and Sammy's mother. Excuse me sir! Maybe she's her own person and you need to stop comparing her to your wife and realise that not all women are the same person? He then flips his perspective on a dime and instantly proposes with no self reflection and even says that he wants to posses her. If this book had been an extra 100-150 pages and TL Swan explored Julian's growth and change of perspective it would have been a five star read. Instead the ending was sudden and out of character for both Julian AND Bree. Why did she say yes? I lost some respect for Bree after that. It was like watching your bestie finally get their shit together after the breakup and then go running back to their toxic ex.

I can’t put my finger on why I didn’t enjoy this book as much as her other books. I feel like the heroine was a bit annoying and stepping over her boundaries a bit too quick. She felt very immature.
Loved the story of this book, and the spice was very good. This kind of thing for me is a good balance of both elements. Finished in one sitting!
