It's been awhile since I've finished a book in a day but this has caused it. As a nanny, I'm continuously sad that something like this doesn't happen for me

Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice

Going into this book, I had high expectations. Reviewers were raving and I've never really read a romance book with a nanny trope but I sure do like an age gap. I have to say that I was disappointed.

I don't want to just focus on the negative things of this novel so let me start with the things I actually liked. I really liked the prologue. It immediately pulled me in and I like the mystery surrounding Mr. Masters and what he does in his spare time. I also really liked Brielle and her interactions with the children she's in charge of. She loves, defends and supports them unconditionally. Her relationship with Willow and Sammy is what ultimately kept me moving forward to finishing the book. I loved Julian's parents. Like Brielle, you can tell they love and support their son and grandchildren.

Moving on to the things I took issue with. I don't get the appeal of Julian. He was an all out jerk in my opinion and I hate that he would slut shame Brielle in the beginning of the book. I hated him with his friends who I also disliked. They all acted like those teenage boys who thought they were adults because they've been around the block a few times. I didn't find them cute, charismatic or funny. All three of them were just dicks when they were together.

The "sexy" dialogue between Julian and Brielle I found really cringe and it felt quite forced. It didn't feel natural. I like my sex scenes to be a little more emotionally descriptive and I felt like it was just step one, two and three. I'm not going to lie though, the roleplay scene in the beginning was a little sexy but I would've preferred for it to be a much longer scene.

Also, what's up with the eye rolls? There are other ways to convey emotion and personality besides an eyeroll. That alone had me wanting to throw the book out. I just think it was a matter of the overall writing style that didn't click with me. I wanted more prose and wanted scenes to breathe on their own. I wanted the story to be shown to me not told.

Like I said before, I was completely disappointed by this book. I wish I knew what the appeal is because quite frankly, I didn't see it. The only reason I didn't DNF this is because I enjoyed Brielle's relationship with the kids, especially Willow. I wanted to see her grow and become the confident person that she is and honestly, that is the only reason this got a two star rating from me.

Well written, but lacking in character development. Main character is mostly one dimensional, side characters (the children) are mostly unseen - as someone with a kid, that's so unrealistic lol kids are always around for one reason or another. Not a bad book, quick read, easy to digest.

This one has been recommended as similar to Praise. And I get the similarities; age gap, rich dude, employer/employee, dom/sub flavour. But I felt this one had more heart, and that was mostly because of the kids. Brielle's relationship with the kids is what made the whole story believable IMO. She gave the kids what they needed; love, fun, non judgemental parental figure. The kids were the conduit for each to see the other. Julian saw her fun loving side, kindness, empathy, unbridled joy. He saw how much she cared about his kids. Brielle saw how she could be a bridge for the kids with their father, help him have a better relationship with his kids and not only be a disciplinarian. She saw how much he hurt, and how that impacted his relationship with his kids. I felt Julian's brokenness made sense....up to a point. I had a bit of issue with Brielle's immaturity early on, but got over that quickly. I'll say in the first bit of the book I found Brielle kind of annoying, the middle half I loved them both, and the last bit I felt Julian was being a stubborn douche. At least he went to real therapy. BUT - I think she took him back a bit too quickly. Although, I guess the proposal in and of itself was an apology an a compromise? I would have liked to see them talk out their issues a bit.

This was really good, super emotional, not too over the top. The proofreading though was HORRENDOUS. Seriously, someone fix and re-release so I can buy it. For now, just KU only.

While I found the plot sort of predictable, I did enjoy reading this book. I love a spicy book with a happy ending. I'll be reading the other books in this series.
