This book was filled with nostalgia. I used to read these stories every year as a kid right before Halloween (and is probably why I enjoy spooky things so much now) and I’m glad I bought this edition to re-read.

"Don't you ever laugh as a hearse goes by,
For you may be the next to die..."
This book still holds up, I love it just as much now as I did when I first read it as a kid! The Hearse Song is a classic as well as High Beams, The Hook, The Babysitter, & love a good vanishing hitchhiker story. All of creepy folklores greatest hits combined into a great collection!

When I found out that this collection was going to be made into a motion picture, memories of being scared as a kid came back to haunt me. I credit Alvin Schwartz for nightmares of black hearses and spiders laying eggs in my face. And I also credit this man for my fascination with horror.
I decided to purchase this collection for two reasons: 1) to relive my childhood, and 2) so I can read these stories to my future child, should I ever adopt. Rereading these books brought back wonderful memories, and I shall never forget them.
