challenging medium-paced

At the beginning of the book I really did not care for it. It seemed like the humor was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I ended up laughing at the audacity of it most of the time. It felt broken and choppy. I re-read the ending of chapter 3 several times to make sure I didn't miss something. It was hard to follow until about chapter 12, the story line smoothed out, the humor was starting to fall into the right places. By chapter 23 I was fully invested and rooting for our FMC. The ending was great. Total cliffhanger and smack you up side the head. I couldn't wait to get my hands on book 2.

It's a rough ride but in the end we got where we needed to go and I enjoyed it.

3.25 This started so promising but the FMC’s blind-loyalty to her suckfest family and her misinformed theories killed the vibe for me. I continued reading just to see if the (obvious) plot twists would be done well. Can’t say they were. Passing on the 2nd book in this duology because I’m done with Freya.

I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about a Viking fantasy but I loved this. The ending was somewhat predictable but at the same time still had a few surprising twists. I enjoyed the characters and their development, but I do wish Freya was a bit more decisive. Looking forward to book 2!
