Ok, this one is somewhat hard for me to review. I finished the book because I was buddy reading with my friend, who had also bought the book for me. Otherwise, 100% would have been a DNF for me. A lot of this is on me, so keep that in mind for this review. I started reading this at the same time as The Road Of Bones, and there is a huge difference between the books. Unfortunately, I think my perception of A Fate Inked in Blood was somewhat diminished because of the concurrent reads.
This is objectively an interesting book and a fascinating concept. People in society with a drop of a gods blood, that gives them supernatural abilities. Interesting. Being the one person whose secret abilities can unite skaland. Interesting. It became the most interesting and drew me in the most in the last 7 pages. We were slapped with several neat twists back to back. I just wish they weren't all at the same time right at the end. Because they are actually a great addition to the story itself. I wish we dove a little more into the world-building in this story, and maybe once again, I am standing on the outside of this because I struggled to connect with the story.
The characters, unfortunately, are the huge why of my struggle to connect to this story. I liked Bjorn and Bodil. That's it. Everyone else is TERRIBLE. TERRIBLE. Stunningly awful. This doesn't include Freya. Freya, unfortunately, is inconsistent. She is either an incredible badass or a simpering fool. There is no in between, so yay for consistency there?! When she is a badass, I love her, I just wish she felt more like a solid consistent character. Therefore, this book just didn't resonate with me at all. I don't think I will be continuing the series. If I do, it might be skimming the book from the library. My advice, don't read this at the same time you read The Road Of Bones.

I liked the concept of humans having god-like powers. The moments in between battles and love scenes were a complete snooze fest for me. Felt like the story was being dragged out. The twist is great and definitely leaves the story on a cliff hanger.

I loved this book! it’s been a while since I’ve read a mythological fantasy book, and the world building in this book was so refreshing.
I loved both the female and male leads, and characters were well-rounded and likeable. The Viking stuff was amazing but I did think that not enough background about Norse mythology was provided (and lots of God names were dropped without telling what their roles in mythology were).
Overall, I really liked this book, and am looking forward to read the next book in the series.
