This was my first fantasy book and I really enjoyed the theme of living in Olympus and having the characters be modern greek mythology but when I was actually reading the book I got a little bored in the middle because there were a lot of “spicy” scenes/chapters. I also feel like most of the book was just leading up to the ending that was only two pages long (if that makes any sense) Even though it was kind of slow in the middle it picked back up again in the end and the ending made me really happy :)

Honestly my fav Katee Robert book so far and I have read A LOT of her books. I am such a fan of the “irredeemable”, possessive, storm cloud male character matched with a sunshiny, trying not to have feels, smart female character. It is niche but totally my fav pairing and Katee writes it so well. Also her diversity with characters is effortless without being a big deal. Are there a lot of white characters? Yes. But the diversity of the rest of the cast is not like “oh look at me being diverse!” It is just normal which I appreciate. A great sequel to Neon Gods and I think I actually prefer this one. Much spicer and the “marriage of  convenience trope but they fall in love” gets me every time.

*Edit : Re-read April 2023*

Still absolutely blown away. I've read all books of the series that are out so far, and it's my favorite. Can't recommend enough, I would give it more stars if that was possible.

*Review Feb 2023*

I was really blown away by this book. The tropes are familiar, but to have a plus sized main character is honestly a breath of fresh air after reading a bunch of other (also pretty hot) dark fantasy books. I hadn't realized how much I missed this. The smut is delightful and delicious, and it's the first time I instantly re-read some of the chapters, just to enjoy the scenes a little longer.

Definitely a recommendation from me for anyone who likes casually queer characters (honestly, this alone would keep me reading Katee Robert's work), the comfort of familiar tropes, etc.

Familiar tropes are... enemies to lovers, forced marriage, fake relationship, shared bed... I also really love how you get this story within the larger Dark Olympus universe, eg with lots of foreshadowing of later books, etc. Also contains some hints at the Wicked Villains series

Such an interesting take on the structure and workings of a society based on Greek mythology. More importantly, I really enjoyed Psyche and Eros as main characters. They really shined and really grew into themselves and their strengths as the book progressed.

Loved this, ate it up, so good. We have now heard about 2 of the 4 sisters this series revolves around and I’m guessing I know who comes next. Katee is such a brilliant writer and storyteller. I’m so impressed

Wholly different from Neon Gods with some linguistic similarities but no less enjoyable. I have a strong pull toward Hades and Persephone for some unknown reason but I really liked this Psyche and Eros retelling. Psyche is stunning in this novel and made me want to be her. The spice was less shocking than the first novel but no less entertaining.

This is my first Katee Robert book and will not be my last!

This modern take to retell the story of Pysche and Eros was so different than other versions that I was on board from chapter one.

Eros is such a grumpy emo who is so stuck in this idea that he is undeserving of love, thanks to his childhood that it takes him a while to realize that regardless of what he's done, he can grow and be a better man.
Psyche is so different. Her characterization is definitely more modern and I love that she is described as a curvy, vivacious woman who has her own hangups thanks to society's views on beauty that have made her doubt herself and in turns Eros.

This has a little bit of different things I love; enemies to lovers,  marriage of convenience, and the unlikely hero not to mention it had fun dialogue, likeable characters and this can be read as a stand-alone even though it's no.2 of the series.

Going to go find the first book now 😍😍
