it was okay.

didn’t have the same chemistry / draw as the first one for me. felt like the writing was really heavy on convos that centred around tactics / strategy which got boring and repetitive so i ended up skimming through a lot of it.

Made it to 52%, chapter 18. I just am not feeling it right now. I would maybe pick it up from the library and quick read to the finish.

After the way things turned out in Neon Gods, with Persephone getting married to Hades, Demeter now has her mind set on making a match between her daughter Psyche and Zeus. Enraged by this, Aphrodite asks her son and fixer, Eros to bring her Psyche's heart in order to get her out of the way and to teach Demeter a lesson.

But when an encounter days prior to his mother's request makes him see another side of Psyche, when she helps him and shows him kindness even knowing what kind of a monster he really is, he can't seem to go through with it. The only way to offer her protection from his mother is to marry her. As they set things in motion, making their story look believable to gain the favour of the public and the members of the Thirteen, lines between what's real and fake start to blur.
With both of them having a carefully crafted public persona over the years and being able to lie and show everyone only what they want them to see, they begin questioning how much of their relationship is for show and how much isn't on the other's part.

People like Psyche don't choose monsters like Eros, but he can't help but want to keep her anyways. The more time he spends with her, the more he wants to know everything about her.

Psyche sees the man beneath the carefully crafted mask of a monster and she likes what she sees, which scares her. But she can't help but wonder if there's hope for them amidst all this chaos after all.

My take on this book:
This was a good read. All the drama and politics was interesting to read about. I really like the body positivity in this book and how Psyche doesn't need anyone's opinion on her looks to feel better about herself. She accepts herself and is proud of who she is. Eros was totally gone for Psyche and I loved it. Also I wish I could shake him so he didn't feel the way he did about himself.

The insta love/lust part put me off a little but somehow I was still hooked till the end. They didn't have any deep connection, especially because they were literally married for a week, and fell in love in by the end of the first week. There wasn't a lot of very deep and twisted plotting and planning. It was pretty straightforward. 4 stars because I didn't get the urge to DNF and didn't skip to read ahead and was interested in knowing how they'll manage to survive.
