While well written, this book just didn’t do anything for me. I wasn’t as interested or invested in Maggie’s story as I was supposed to be, which made getting through it difficult. I had such high hopes for this one and am sad to have saved it for so long, just to be disappointed.
I think this was the first Nicholas Sparks book I read. I am giving it 4 stars because it was sweet and I did enjoy it. I found the book extremely predictable. I knew right away where the story was heading. Yes, it had its sad moments but because the book was set up the way it was, it wasn't as sad as it could have been if things were left unknown. Maggie was sent away at 16 to her aunt's home in Ocracoke, the outer banks in North Carolina to hide her pregnancy from her friends and her parents friends. She would stay there her entire pregnancy. That time she was there she met Bryce. In present time she is a renowned photographer diagnosed with stage IV cancer (told first chapter) and tells her story to her assistant. I think Sparks is a Christian writer? At least this book seems like it. My issue with this story was the love story between a 16 year old and 17 year old. It seemed too "deep" for their age. I believed they cared for one another, but was 16 and 17 year old really "know"? Anyways, I did enjoy the book, just wish some things were hidden to make the story more unpredictable.
This felt extremely predictable to me with both plots, but was still a good story to follow along. Finished in 24 hours!

Normally Nicholas Sparks' books blow me away, but this one was just 'eh for me. While the ending was very emotional, I found it overall to be predictable, and the early storyline to be unbelievable. I just expected more from this.
I thought most of the major plot twists were pretty predictable but it was still a good read, especially for a beach read while on Ocracoke, location for much of the narrative.

3.5/5… I may or may not have shed a few tears at the end
