for being so connected to preservation, it feels kind of strange how isolated this story feels from the preservation team murderbot has gotten close with. this is a clean, fun mystery and murderbot seems to be at a place where they understand that they're using humor as kind of an unhealthy coping mechanism but they'll be damned if that stops them from making a dry observation every other minute. i also think it's adorable that pin-lee and murderbot curse in the same way.

did what i was supposed to do and read this before network effect. i really am enjoying these on audiobook as well, which is a recommendation that has probably been beat to death by this point but i'm happy to agree with.

This was great. I think it was my favourite Murderbot book in a while. The humour was on point, I really liked the mystery and the new characters, the pace was great, the book was the perfect length, and I loved Murderbot's interactions with the different people. It has friends now! I love that.

Also, Kevin R. Free's narration has so much personality and it really enhanced the experience. I didn't enjoy his narration much in the last book but I loved it here. Maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind then. Whatever the case, I really enjoyed this book.

Murderbot, now going by SecUnit in public, begrudgingly helps Station Security and Port Authority solve a murder mystery. While less epic in scope, this next chapter in the Murderbot Diaries keeps all the charm, wry humor, and fast-paced action of the series.
