This book was delightful. I was in suspense the whole time trying to figure out who the culprit was. Also the little bit of romance was so cute! Overall I cannot wait to read the next book!

Amazing concept and magic system, interesting characters. A good debut good, leaving me wanting to read the second book.

A world of people descended from the Greek gods with powers of them sounded so intriguing. I do wish a chart was included with a book making each otherborn, the god they come from, and their powers. As it was, I tabbed so much of that information in the book.

Events of the novel all occurred over the course of only a few days, which feels jarring considering all that happened. Io deals with her family drama and fate thread all while trying to solve the murders of people from the Silts, her home. I love how diverse the powers and characters are, but more communication between sisters and others could positively serve the story with still propelling the plot forward. Bianca is a fascinating...antagonist? Rival? Ally? I'm very curious to see how dynamics between various characters play out in book two.

3.5 fun idea
adventurous dark mysterious tense medium-paced

I didnt like how it went but i did like the idea of it. This book could of went in many directions and the one that it did go in, well. It was good but it was confusing at times. The writing confused me more than any other book and there was alot of information that was just thrown in.

But i did like the dialogue between the MC and the love interest.

“What kind of person are you, if you love someone who is cruel?”
“You’re someone who loves. That’s it. That’s the only part that’s yours to give and yours to take.” aw right?

3.25 ⭐️

Holy plot twist, I did not expect that ending.

I love the magic system in this book, especially the fact that in order to cut a thread, she has to cut her own too. The whole vibe of the book is very dark, and you're never quite sure who to trust. The author does a great job at maintaining this throughout.

The plot is intense and steeped in death. You feel yourself getting frustrated at going round in circles as you realise they've followed the wrong lead once again. This is exactly what I'd expect from a book with mystery elements like this.

I really like Io, she's someone who has suffered through a lot but keeps going and I'm sure a lot of people will relate to that. I enjoyed reading about her relationships with her sister Ava and her friend Rosa.

I also like our male lead, Edei. Loyal to a fault and a great character for Io to bounce off. Sadly, I found the romance aspect slightly lacking. This is partially influenced by having to avoid a cheating storyline so we don't get many interactions that show how he feels. But I do think it's all been set up for book 2 to have a lot more in there.

The main reason for the 3.25 star rating is that it does feel a little info dumpy because of all the gods and the need to explain powers and the history of the silts, etc. Again, this is something I imagine won't affect book 2. I did think that the power explanations were backed up by displays of the powers in use, so it's not too much telling over showing.

I'm going straight into book 2 now, and I'm excited to see where it goes.
I received an advance review copy of this book, and this review represents my honest opinion. Thank you to netgalley, Kika Hatzopoulou, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.

When a private investigator descended from the Greek Fates becomes embroiled in a string of disappearances that could threaten her sisters, she must work alongside a boy with whom she shares a fate thread to uncover the mysterious forces at work in her city. Truly, this is one of the most imaginative fantasy worlds I’ve come across in recent years. A half-sunken city, female wraiths, and a reimagining of the Three Fates makes for a suspenseful and atmospheric read.

Also, female sleuths who take cases to help disenfranchised or Othered people are my favorite cup of tea.
