This is exactly what I want out of a YA fantasy book. Unique magic system, world building that is just complex enough to intrigue you but not so much that it takes forever to get into the story, and a plot that keeps you engaged. It started a bit slow but by about halfway through I was fully engaged. The plot twists caught me by surprise and the sequel is sure to be interesting based on how it ended!

This was a captivating tale from the first chapter. The story jumps right into the main character Io on a job to uncover a cheating husband, what she didn't expect is to find her self nearly avoiding death and the husband to end up dead. This event catapults Io into a journey of uncover what the heck is going on. I loved all the different components of this book, there is mystery, magic and a fated love story woven within. The characters are likable and the world is fascinating. There were so many twists and turns that kept me not wanting to put down the book. I started to guess the ending reveal but not until the lat 70% of the book, however the way it came about still had me shocked. I am itching to dive right into book two. Absolutely wonderful.

4.8 stars - wow, the plot twists, the character replaying a conversation in her mind and thinking of all the things she should have said, the list goes on. What a marvelous and fun read filled with the same whimsy as Percy Jackson but with a more brutal and realistic feel. The writing is gorgeous. I loved the sister fights - those were so realistic lol how you would still drop anything for them after wanting to kill each other not 2 seconds earlier
