MY OPINION
Ok ok ok OKKK!! This was my first by the author. I really wanted to the read [b:The Dark|59743277|The Dark (Lacey Flint, #5)|Sharon J. Bolton|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1645966060l/59743277._SY75_.jpg|94088528] but unfortunately it's not available in my region on NG. So, while I wait for it to be released, I thought I'd dabble in her other works. I legit don't remember adding this to my TBR but here we are... Also I dead ass started and abandoned 3 books before sticking with this one. It was what I needed.
Writing? On point. Beautiful, well-structured sentences. Short chapters to keep you engaged and wanting more. I loved Jessica and Isabel's backstory. It's the first book I read that kinda delved into what it's like to be a nun, so I found that really interesting. Also, the nuns were hilarious in their own way. I liked how the author used sharp wit to "humanize" the nuns instead of going to stereotypical route of being religious freakazoids.
This book reads like a movie. Not your typical dude action movie, but like a classy netflix original LOL. There was continuous action and suspense based on a really unique premise. AND THAT TWIST ????? I was SHOOK. I mean... there were red herrings along the way, but I wasn't paying attention/they blended in perfectly (going with the latter lol).
The only part I didn't like was that last 10%. It got a lil too over the top (OTT) and threw in a bunch of unnecessary twists and turns. I think that one twist at 76% plus the culprit reveal was enough. I didn't need all that extra stuff and some of it just wasn't believable.
Anyways. I'm definitely going to read more of her work. It was a great read, unlike anything I've read this year.

Pros: Well-written, fast paced, great premise, shocking twist, layered and interesting characters
Cons: last 10% did too much

I’m pretty positive I held my breath through half of this book!
People. If you have not read this book, you need to! This might be one of my favorites book this year! Even though I went through a reading slump from being so busy at work, it was by far a very face paced book for someone who can just sit down to read in a setting. Dead Woman Walking was a brilliant novel and an exciting story to get sucked into.
This is a novel that I cannot go too in depth about because plain and simple, I’d give the important parts away. This is also a book that you really need to pay close attention to. There are many parts inside the pages that made me go back a few to double check information. It’s so hard to discuss any of these parts because I don’t want to spoil anything. So what I am going to do is talk about some of my favorite things about book and a couple of things that I didn’t find interesting.
The first thing I absolutely loved about this book was the fact it opened with a hot air balloon crash and there were nuns throughout the story. I have never laughed so hard at nuns before in my life than I did within the 352 pages of this book. That was an unexpected turn I was not ready for. My favorite part about the nuns, they watched the Big Bang Theory on their recreational time.
Another thing I really enjoyed was the bond Jessica and Isabelle shared. After Isabelle being in the convent for 20 some years, Jessica always visited her and knew how to break all the rules together. It is something I could see my sister and I doing if we ever ended up in their shoes.
I’ve talked to a few other bloggers and readers about this book and everyone has told me that easily predicted what was going to happen. I must have been off my game during this book because I didn’t see any of it coming.
One thing I wasn’t a fan of though was a little lag in the story right before part two. It just started to drag out with nothing exciting happening for me and I almost gave up. Glad I have my book besties to keep me going strong because it definitely turned out to be one of the best novels I’ve read.
To end on a positive note, for the readers that have read the story. That ending was perfect. I was in tears and all I could think of was the quote “Be still my heart.”

This book needs a much bigger profile. It’s a smart and twisty mystery/thriller that I had to make myself put down to get some sleep. Highly recommended!

Bleh. I had an awful time with this. It’s not her typical writing style. There wasn’t a central character to love nor hate. I also hate the flip-flopping. Present day, 28 years earlier, present day, 26 years earlier, present day, 20 years earlier... ew. Just tell me a story already 🙄

3.5 stars. This book redeemed itself about half way through. The first half was slow, mountainous and overly detailed. But oh the twists of the second half. The twists that I keep reading Bolton for.

One of those thrillers that actually has an impact on your heart rate.

It has been several years since I have read a book from this author. In fact, it was when the author was writing under the published name, S.J. Bolton. Now that I have finished this book, I am going back and reading prior novels as well as keeping my eyes out for the next book. No matter what name the author goes by now, the writing style has not changed. Ms. Bolton can write a really great book.
It is always a great sign when instantly, the story can grab you and keep you focused until the last sentence. The sole survivor, Jessica could have just went to the police for help but instead she turned into a woman on a mission to exact justice for herself. The way that Jessica went about it was smart. However, she was not the only one that showed intelligence. There is Superintendent Ajax. He did not miss details in the case.
The storyline does flash back to the past. Yet, every time that it did, a little morsel of information was given that added to the present; making the story even more intriguing. I am happy to report that reading this book is not in vain as the ending is just as strong as the beginning. Ms. Bolton brings a powerhouse story filled with multifaceted characters in Dead Woman Walking!
