Absolutely brilliant, read in one sitting, definitely the best book I have read in a long time, and the best book I've read so far in 2017. I would love a sequel if possible :)

Truth or Dare was a book I have been eagerly awaiting its publication, and excited to make a start on it once it arrived in the post. But life got busy, and crazy, and stressful and I found it hard to even pick up a book, never mind open one to read. So I carried Truth or Dare with me everywhere I went, hoping I'd find some calmness to sit and read the book.

Truth or Dare is told in two points of view, with Claire's story first, before we flip the book to read Sef's. With Claire we get to know her really well, how she suffers at the hands of bullies, how a video has made the rounds of her bikini mishap, and how that has shaped her school life. Sef is a mystery at first, and we initially get to know him through Claire's eyes. We learn of the unfortunate accident that almost killed his brother Kam and leaves him with a brain injury, how his treatment at a special rehabilitation unit is expensive, and is money Sef and his family just don't have, and then we see how Sef plans to rise this money with the help of Claire, who is already invested in this family due to volunteering at the unit to read to Kam.

With a video camera, empty caravan, and disguises Claire and Sef set about creating a YouTube channel to video and share their truths and dares, and raise money by asking for donations or suggestions for a donation.

Truth or Dare was a book that really stood out for me, I loved the idea behind it, the partnership between fellow pupils, how far someone is willing to go to help someone they love, and how far can a person be pushed before they break. I really liked the idea behind the truth or dares and did actually laugh at some of them a they took place. I liked the characters and their beliefs and what they stood for, even if there may be some confusion along the way between best friends. The whole idea of dual point of view in a flip style book was a really unique way to tell the story, especially as one picks up as the other ends, but also fills in a few gaps and previous events.

This book really brings to light the struggles families can face every day to find money to support and help people they love, enabling them to get the best possible treatment available. It's a struggle for most people to survive each day, and I can't imagine how having to find so much money for a loved one can put an even bigger financial strain on a family.

Final Verdict
Truth or Dare is a heartwarming and heartfelt story, and although it took a while for me to read, as soon as my own life stuff calmed down I could not put this one down. This is a must read for fans of Non Pratt.

Just like her character Claire, Non has set up a fundraising page for Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, and will shave her head at YALC if she reaches her target of £2,000.

Non Pratt writes good teens, the kind you can imagine actually existing in today's world. Claire didn't really know Sef's brother Kam before the accident, the fall from a railway bridge left him with brain damage and he's never going to be the same again. But when Sef needs help to raise funds for his brother's care, Claire offers to help. Not keen on being the centre of attention, somehow she ends up starring in a YouTube series with Sef.

Half way through, you turn the book over to read Sef's perspective of things. I like this in concept, but what I found when I read Replica was that I didn't have much incentive to keep reading what was essentially the same story twice. However this book isn't quite at the end of the story when you turn it over, giving a little bit more momentum to the second half.

I was quite surprised at how Claire's perception of Sef was so different to how he really is. I can't say I liked him much once I started reading his side of the story. It does reflect how sometimes relationships can be one sided. He struggles to come to terms with the extent of Kam's injuries too. Claire is more comfortable with Kam, spending time with him as part of volunteer work separate to her project with Sef.

Towards the end of part two, the chapters start alternating between the two characters and picks up from where the first half ended. The cliffhanger at the end of part one will make you want to zoom through the second half to get caught up again.

I think it gets a certain aspect of YouTube culture spot on, although admittedly the part I don't like. Dares and watching people do things they shouldn't be doing just makes me feel uncomfortable. But there are plenty of YouTubers who have become successful by being silly so clearly there's an audience for it.

I just devoured this book in one sitting! Full review to come.

Book Review:

Non Pratt is quickly becoming one of my go-to UKYA authors as I find her books so enjoyable and entertaining. Truth or Dare is no exception being a fast-paced and all round enjoyable read.

I had been anticipating Truth or Dare for a long time before its release and when it came out I picked it up in an evening knowing that I was going to have a good time. Saying this, although I knew that I would enjoy the story I didn't expect to love it as much as I did.

I was captivated by the first part of the story and I ended up reading the whole book in one evening because I was so invested in the story. I did, however, find that I wasn't as in love with the second part of the story as I don't think that it went the way that I thought it would. This did not hinder my overall experience.

The really liked the characters in the book and found them relatable and fleshed out. I also love that this book features an asexual character in Seren and it was a good representation as this is something that I like to see in books being ace myself.

I did really like the plot it did keep me interested and I especially like that it was centred around a Youtube channel that did magically blow up overnight because I am pretty sure that this would not happen in real life. I do also like how this was handled in the book.
The Verdict:

Truth or Dare is a great UKYA novel that is a standout and reflects the digital age perfectly.

Non Pratt is one of my favourite authors. Remix was my number one read of 2015, and I loved Trouble almost as much.

Truth or Dare has a really interesting twist to it. You read one side of the story, which is told from Claire’s point of view, and when you’re ready to read the second half you literally flip the book upside down for Sef’s perspective.

Sef wants to launch a YouTube channel to help raise money to care for his brother, who was left disabled after a tragic car accident, and Claire has just the filming and editing skills required.

The unlikely pair begin creating truth or dare videos. They start out reasonably tame, but they soon come to realise that tame won’t cut it. Their dares become more and more daring and dangerous as they struggle to raise the funds they need, but how far will they take it?

I’d certainly say that Truth or Dare is unexpected. I had no idea where it was headed, with twists and turns that I didn’t see coming at all. But I didn’t find myself connecting with its characters as much as I did in Remix and Trouble, which is something I’ve loved so much about Non’s writing in the past.

That said, I expected to find the second half of the story quite slow because it’s essentially the same story told again, but it’s very cleverly done. It’s quite the eye-opener, because things from Sef’s perspective are not at all what you imagine they’ll be, and I’ve never read a book quite like it.

Whether or not you’ve read Remix and Trouble, I’d recommend picking up Truth or Dare. As always, I can’t wait to read whatever Non Pratt comes up with next.

My first time reading a flip book. I read it in alternating chapters of Sef's and Claire, sometimes skipping a chapter ahead so that the other pov matched up with the timing of the other pov as the two parts were in a linear narrative. And I would recommend that as sometimes one character would say something and if you were reading part one first then part 2 you might get confused on about what that character was talking about.
I just felt that reading one character's perspective and then flipping for the other's perspective of the whole events would take me out of the story as I would feel like I was rereading the book in another's recap and I'm used to dual pov's so it was just easier for me. Then I could go on to reading part three narrated by both without having to go through the whole thing again from Sef's view.
You're supposed to do part one then two but that wouldn't have worked for me, it was better and more interesting this way as I would read an event by Claire and then see how Stef saw that event differently rather then trying to remember what event it both was had I not been reading it dual.

I really enjoyed this book, though I wish Sef had more page time as Claire was just a very meh character to me but Sef I adored. I didn't like the way it ended either
Spoiler after everything he did for his brother to not have them interact other then a look and two words to one another was disappointing.
