Upon reread in 2017, I wouldn't say this was one of his best, at least not after just rereading corduroy and denim again. I did like how Amy helped him with some of the narration in this one, esp of their brother Paul :). Great escape from the news of current events.

Classic Sedaris, one of his best! Hilarious, quick read. He has quite a way with words. I also love all the Raleigh landmark references. A great read :)

I'm generally not the biggest fan of short stories, but these were pretty funny. I even laughed out loud a few times, which I rarely do when reading.

Back when I first got into David Sedaris' work, I gave Barrel Fever a spin and didn't care much for it. I stalled out a little way in. I'd read a lot of his more famous works and had seen him life. This early effort, especially the stories, seemed not up to his usual standard. But revisiting it the last few days, via the audiobook version (read by Sedaris and, in places, his sister Amy) is a real treat. So, while it isn't his best work, it's still really solid and fun, especially when Sedaris reads it.
