Lots of very interesting concepts here, in a world dealing with a deathless society. I thought the pacing and world were great, and I was engaged throughout. Lots of good questions raised about a world where basically no one dies. The characters felt a little flat, and I really would have liked more romance between the main two to make it more believable. The conflict wraps up very neatly, but I almost didn't care about this conflict and am much more interested in the greater upcoming conflict.

I would be very interested to read a non-YA version of this book, because it really does raise a lot of interesting concepts and questions.

Officially obsessed and need to buy the rest of the series asap!

this book is so so good. from the premise, to the morally gray characters, to the writing style. i didn’t even mind the romance(s) in here. the premise is what intrigued me into getting this book, i mean a world where no one dies and every time you get like a paper cut you magically heal yourself?? cmon who wouldn’t want that! i especially liked the journal entries in between because it broke up the story a little bit and gave you time to think and what’s happened and also some insight from third party characters. would highly recommend for someone looking for a quick high intensity read!

Fantastic read! I really enjoyed the in-depth world building and how smoothly information about their world is introduced to the reader. It was easy to be swept away by the cultural aspects of characterization. I read the book in a four-hour sitting.

Personally, I would have preferred a little more substance in the POV character thought processes/etc... but as it is written, the way thoughts and motivations are presented meshes really well with the pacing and overall voice. It does give a certain amount of credence to high-stress situations.

The romance aspect was admittedly a little weak? But, you know, it kind of comes with the genre. With the second book coming out next year, I have a feeling it will be expanded upon a bit. I am very excited to see where the story goes in the future.

The first edition is riddled with typographical errors. I did not think they hindered the reading experience that much, but kerning issues with the font they chose did give me a little eyestrain. Hopefully this will be remedied in later editions!

Fantastic story and concept. I could not put it down. Ended up buying the other two books about an hour into the first one.
