There is limited ethnic and lgbtq++ representation.

The plot is interesting and novel. It did give The Time Traveler’s Wife vibes, though it is quite different. There is a lot of potential there.

I also liked the writing style and will try another of Ms Schwab’s books

I was disappointed that it took Addie so long to leave France considering what she sold for the ability to see the world. I also would have liked to learn how Addie learned the languages she knew and how she learned to read considering the small amount of formal education she had before her first deal with Luc and her disability.

Addie herself did not really seem to grow as a character and minor characters were uninteresting, basically filling in the room. I would have loved to have seen Luc through other than Addie's eyes. Henry while nice was a bit of a cypher. Addie also does not seem to learn that many people work as day labourers, earning money with no documentation and different employers each day.

I was satisfied with the ending until the last chapter, now I have some questions now.

ah, where do i begin with this one. i have a lot of mixed feelings about it. that's why it sits at a perfect 2.5, i truly could not decide. at times it was really pertinent, touched the perfect strings and made me wonder if someone took two of my biggest insecurities and turned them into characters. but at most times i wanted to dnf it so bad when i rarely leave a book unfinished. i'm glad i didn't, because i deserved closure after that hell of a journey. i can't say the hype is justified because this is definitely not everyone's cup of tea. the length of this book troubled me the most and it served no other purpose than making the reader experience the long and torturously slow life our main character addie has lived. another problem was with the character itself, no other aspect of her personally was seen other than her stubbornness and strong will, more was expected when you follow her around for 300 years. henry's character on the other hand was concise and well developed. the smaller themes and scenes didn't seem to add value to the main narrative, or maybe that's the point i don't know. the premise of this book had so much potential, but i guess everyone's idea of fulfiling that potential is obviously very different. and that makes this book a mystery in plain sight, just like addie larue's life.

It was a little slow but it wasn’t the kind of slow I usually complain about… it was slow in the way that we are experiencing pieces of a very long life with Addie and learning about her 300 years on this earth, which takes time. So while the pacing and lead up to the conclusion felt slow, it wasn’t unbearable and it was necessary in a way.

As a whole, Addie’s character wasn’t anything overly special (I know, I know) but I think that is part of her charm. She is just a regular girl who wished one day that she could live life on what she thought would be her own terms. Ultimately, I think her humanity is what made her stand out and what made this story so easy to feel deeply about.

I almost found myself wishing that she and Luc would find a way to be happy (call me crazy, I’m aware) because even though he was the one who put her through a life of trouble, he provided something important for her over the years too and that was stability and some semblance of romance. I truly think he loved her in the only way he knew how, maybe the only way he was capable of, and I really expected things to end differently with them.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about the conclusion of this book. I’m happy she was able to give him his life back but at the same time, I wanted more for Addie.

i do agree w the other reviews that this book couldve been shorter. however, i think theres a beauty in drawing this story out. i think its written in a way that mirrors the life that addie larue happened to experience. the length and repetitive nature of this read going to show how annoying and repetitive her own immortality is. the poetry of this book made me smile quite a few times, and i have a feeling i will be left w a book hangover from this one.
