A book with this title and all I did was cry while reading. It was emotional, but much needed for our time. A must read if you’re into emotional reads that your heart may or may not need. Some passages spoke to me as if my own father were saying them and provided knowledge and healing. So thankful!

This is really more of a 3.5 from me. The writing is lyrical and a delight. The content is challenging and insightful. My only disappointment is that the story is only developed from one perspective. I was expecting the son's reaction/response. Really, any sort of reaction to better understand the reality of the situation would have been better. We only have what the father thinks about how his son felt. The story would have been richer, the Father's story more meaningful, had both perspectives been represented. Not surprisingly, the ending felt abrupt.

Four generations of men exploring what "love" means. Four generations of strong-willed women and how they respond to those men. Four generations of queer folk and how they are treated. Difficult topics are addressed in a way which made it hard for me to put the book down. I want to buy copies for my children, and I think I finally understand my own father.
