The book was really beautiful although I thought the pros at times could’ve gone deeper I understood why it didn’t wise the father was not a man of academics or learned thoughts so it makes sense why the pros was very simple and straightforward however, at times I felt myself wishing that it would dig a little deeper, but still a really fantastic and beautiful read Highly emotional. If you ever fantasize about getting that apology from your dad, read this

A gorgeous and heartbreaking portrayal of a Black father grappling with historical trauma and what being a man means as times change. I highly recommend reading!

Enjoyed the premise and overall message. I hope Isaac gets to read this letter and I hope any black father of a queer child learns that if you wait too long, a letter might not be enough, if you even have time to write one.

I'm just also on the more neutral side of things with Don't Cry For Me because although some quotes/thoughts of Jacob were hitting the mark, a lot of the time I felt like I was just reading words but not connecting and unable to really feel Jacob's heart.

I also think I just feel unfulfilled not having more interactions with Isaac as an adult but I suppose that's one of the main points of this story and why Jacob is writing this series of letters on the first place. If you're big on having a sense of closure, you might not get that here.

A heart wrenching story that really opens your eyes as a white person. Very well written, very artful, a nice short read
