So here's the thing, I love love LOVE domestic thrillers and psychological thrillers. But I am pretty apathetic, if not inclined to dislike detective thrillers. Wendy's new book falls in the middle of a Venn diagram of those two sub-genres, which I think is a little new for her? I love DLfM and EitN... those were un-put -down-able and I couldn't wait to devour this new story! Once I started it, I ebbed and flowed with the consumption. I think that I lost or overlooked some important bits of the crime scene (the Kill Room) earlier in the story that had me having to stop and think about where the mystery was going. There were a few really cool revelations and the story wrapped pretty well, even without an epilogue. I would bet that people who love cop thrillers and like domestic thrillers would LOVE this!

Thank you so much to Edelweiss

4.5. Really had me on the edge of my seat!

I have read and loved all of Walker's previous work and What Remains definitely followed suit! This one stands out from her others as they had more of a psychological suspense feel to them, whereas this one felt much more like crime suspense with psychological elements mixed in. As someone who is not a huge fan of police procedurals I'll admit I was a little worried when I realized what the book was about after going in blind, but was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the characters and how their police work was only a small piece of them.

You can truly tell how much research, heart, and empathy went into this book as it took on some extremely tough subjects such as public shootings, trauma, and a peak into what it's like on the other side from a police officers POV who was forced to make a decision while off-duty. The thought that went into this book really came across strongly and reaffirms the reasons for why I have always loved Walker so much as an author.

I think this was the most gripping book I have read in awhile. I was immersed from start to finish, and it was so fun to solve the puzzle along with Elise.

Ughhh. I was so bored.
