The Shadow of the Wind just earned it's place among my favorite books of all time. It was so beautiful and so atmospherically dark academia, spooky, romantic, eloquent, and gothic. I just LOVE a sad poignant ending and a book riddled with beautiful tragedy. If a book doesn't attempt to rip my heart out then why am I reading it? I am a big fan of books in which unraveling the mystery doesn't trick you into thinking the book is good, but ones where the STORY and character development is what carries you to the end. I can't recommend this enough.

This has become of my new favourite novels of all time. This is the perfect example of a book about books, it makes you love the art of literature even more and makes u fall deeper for reading. It has such a beautiful storyline and soo many subplots which beautifully thread along with the main plot. Each character is soo distinct and vivid.
One of the most beautifully written books i have read.

I just didn't care that much about the characters or the plot. Then I read just one too many ick lines about women/girls and I've decided to stop. And why so many unecessary mentions of "relantionships" with children. Ugh.

Also, it feels a bit over written. You aren't Victor Hugo, stop pretending to be.

I started reading this as part of my project to read every book mentioned in The Starless Sea, but I'm going to have to accept that just because you love someone's book, it doesn't mean you'll love every book they love.
