These books are so good, I love the way they are written, I love the Venetian background, I love the way the endings are unexpected. I am really enjoying this series. I haven't given 5 stars to many books, but I have for these.

A little too much opining on flower arrangements and sentimentality, but I did not suspect the killer!
Maybe not quite a 4 star book. I enjoyed this although the boundaries of belief were stretched a bit in a couple of ways, but my main problem was that I found the end very sudden. And while by some measures everything was resolved it didn't really feel that way at the end. It wasn't helped that I was reading it on Hoopla and apparently was on p.156 of 200 (small font) when it stopped. And the last 44 pages were taken up with advertising etc. Hoopla is always my last choice for reading books but this time it was the only way I could get it via the library.
Less Venice color and more plot, but the characters don't shine as much in this one. The subplot about Brunetti and his wife is a loose end, I think, deserving of more development, and the relationship between Brunetti, Elettra, and her computer seems to be heading somewhere bad, but again lacks development. An entertaining read, if bloody.

Can love be so toxic it kills the ones you love? Brunetti re-investigates the kidnapping of a young noble man after his body turns up after 2 years. Leon contrasts the relationships in Brunetti's life with the one of the young man's family to show how your life can turn on a dime and how you can't protect the ones you love against themselves. The plot is tight but is more transparent this time and the reader can see things coming quite easily. Not really a problem since it's not the who but the why that is important in this tale.
