Reading this series in 2024, 17 years from publishing has definitely been an experience. I was exposed to the romantacy culture of twilight back in 2007, when this series was published and id say the genre has come leaps and bounds since.
I dont love the purity culture and the born sexy yesterday tropes , but I think the world is interesting and im hoping for a 3rd book to give rise to why this series has SO MANY books.

Faith and Vaughn gave me classic paranormal romance vibes. She had a childlike sense of logic (having been isolated her entire life due to being a rare F-Psy who receives visions of the future), and he took a pretty domineering approach to pursuing/caregiving. Not gonna lie, I was into this dynamic. 😅

I also liked how the book expanded on the world building from Slave to Sensation. I won’t go into what was revealed here, but I’m expecting it to have big repercussions that we’ll see over the series.

What I liked less was the murder plot, which felt a little… unfocussed. It was the reason Faith sought out the Changelings (and came into contact with Vaughn), and I was interested in what that storyline revealed about the Psy world, but the murder plot itself felt a little anticlimactic.

Overall, there was a lot I really liked about this book, and I’m impressed by what Nalini Singh is doing with this series, so maybe I’m being a bit harsh with this rating! Probably just saving my higher ratings for later books in the series.
