4/11/20: When I think of classic Psy-Changeling, Faith and Vaughn are one of my biggest go-to's after Sascha and Lucas. I really have a huge soft spot for them, even more so because of how they have contributed to the series far after this book was first written. I have no idea if Nalini was even thinking that far into the future (slight pun intended) but whatever she saw, it was bright, and it's all, like always, because of Faith.

5/31/19: Yep, still love this one. I really just wanted some of that good, classic, Psy-Changeling romance again. Heart eyes for days over my faves.

10/2/18: This is definitely not as bad as I seem to recall it being. I even bumped it up a half star because it surprised me how much I liked reading it again. I was craving a Faith story, after seeing her pop up throughout the rest of the series, and it was thrilling to see how early characters like Kaleb and Sahara were first mentioned, although they don't come to the forefront until much later on. I think that made me forgive the "lack" of world building; it was subtle, but it is there, I gotta admit. And man, if their chemistry isn't just as good the second time around... (4 stars)

10/31/17 - I didn't like this as much as the first one. It wasn't bad, but it seemed so much less put together, and more rushed in the wrong places. I'm excited for the implications of what happened in this novel to take effect throughout the rest of the series, but I want to see genuine writing improvement more than anything else. Kind of felt like a step backwards here. (3.5 stars)

A world war is building between the Psy (a race of people void of emotion) and the Changelings (packs of sentimental shape-shifters: wolves, cats, hawks, rats, creatures of the sea, etc).

The Psy torture their children to destroy every whisper of feeling, for they believe it's a weakness. They want a silent world, under their control. The Changelings won't have it.

There are mini-battles throughout all the books and you can smell the cold fire thickening the air. The character cast so massive and the intricacies in the plot so complex, Singh could spend the rest of her career on just this series (please don't--your Guild Hunter series is one of my favs).

Sci-fi and paranormal on the cutting edge, each book is a dark yet erotic portrait of the varying personalities in this supernatural world. Evocatively, stylistically, and sensually captivating, this unique futuristic series of fairy tales work on every level. The sex scenes are pure magic.

This review applies to the first eleven books in the series (all of which I've given 5 stars). Kiss of Snow (#10) is my favorite.

Slave to Sensation
Visions of Heat
Caressed by Ice
Mine to Possess
Hostage to Pleasure
Branded by Fire
Blaze of Memory
Bonds of Justice
Play of Passion
Kiss of Snow
Tangle of Need

Faith Nightstar is an F-Psy, a rare class of Psy that can foresee the future. Faith is personally worth billions of dollars to her family's business interests, and is one of the most powerful F-Psy alive. However, the price of that is isolation, and eventually, madness. Lately, Faith has begun to worry that madness might be her lot, sooner rather than later, as she's been having dark dreams of murder. However, when she learns that her sister has been murdered, she realizes that her dreams may have been foresight, and not madness at all. Disturbed, she decides to seek out answers the only place she can think of: the outside world.

Starting this book, I was a bit concerned that it was going to be too similar to the first book, especially since it followed the same pattern of a female Psy and a male Changeling. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I enjoyed this one even more than the first book. A lot of this came down to Faith as a character. Unlike Sascha, the Silence has a deep hold on Faith, and so seeing her grow through that was very interesting to me. It also made it feel like Faith had a deeper sense of agency than Sascha. Sascha always felt a bit like she was being swept along by events, but Faith creates her own future, and I liked that a lot.

Vaughn was the male lead in this book, and though we'd met him a bit in the first book, I really enjoyed getting to know him. He's the lone jaguar in the Pack, and more importantly, he's very in touch with his jaguar, having spent some extended time as a child in jaguar form. That presents some unique challenges to both him and Faith, and I really enjoyed watching them navigate those. He's also a bit less obstinate about Lucas, which I appreciated.

I do think that the mystery in this one was a bit weaker, and felt a bit more tacked on, even though it was pivotal to Faith's motivations. However, it leads into a bunch of interesting world-building, so I can completely forgive that. We learn a lot more about the PsyNet in this one, and threads are laid that I'm sure will continue throughout the series. Also, we get a bit more in-depth on Psy society and the rifts therein, which is super important as well. I think that if you were on the fence about the first book, this one gives an even better indication of how this series is going to go. And I, for one, am very excited!

I loved this!!!!! Maybe not as much as Sacha and Lucas as the man couple but the plot made up for it, it was great to see a psy and how they break conditioning, I also think the parents of both out heroines so far may be part of the resistance.... yep Nikita too. I cant wait to see what more of the world is unveiled.

another great story in this series i am fast falling in love with. Passionate and deep the love these two develop is quite a roller coaster and the underlying plots in the political stage of the psy world are scarily close to what i imagine the real political world is like if a little more figurative in the killing to get higher ranking (i hope). Chopping at the bit for #3. Cannot wait!
