Saw the movie a long time ago, loved it, but I don't remember anything about it except Reese Witherspoon being hilarious in the role of Tracy Flick. After reading the book, I still think she was perfectly cast. I would put this in the light reading category for sure. There were some serious undertones, I suppose, but I found this to be overall a light and entertaining book that I managed to polish off in only a few nights of before-bed reading.

This exceeded my expectations! I've not seen the movie, but I know of it, and when I saw this at my library book sale I picked it up and read a few passages. They intrigued me, so I paid the $1 and finished this short tale in two sittings. I liked the writing, the character development was great, and a few sentences made me stop and read them several times as they captured a feeling/mood/part of life so perfectly. I appreciate any book that can do that! I am curious now to pick up the sequel and see where Tracy ends up later in life.
Very quick read. I love Tom Perrotta. He always creates interesting characters, who, though they sometimes are doing outlandish things, somehow still seem very authentic and relate-able.
I was hesitant to read this book since i remembered the movie as having something pretty nasty to say about teenage girls. I’ll probably rewatch the movie since the book is pretty kind about teenagers and pretty pointed about the way adults put our shit on them. I tore through it - finished it in a day. And I find myself really rooting for Tracy Flick. Looking forward to the sequel.
