This book was ok, but should not be geared toward middle grade in my opinion. If it was classified and strictly YA, I would have thought better of it.
I read this to see if I thought my 10 year old might enjoy it. He is really into al things space related so I thought it might be right up his alley. I’m glad I read it first because I will not let him read this.
The protagonist who is 11 leaves home by himself to go to a gathering of rocket launchers he meats on a website. The dad has passed away and the Mom cannot take care of the child, but the child still lives with the Mom.
I have a real issue with this child being responsible for his mother. I also think this book glamorizes to children how our main character leaves home on his on and sets out on this journey. The kid is 11! I have a huge problem with this! Children this age are not going to see the danger of heading out on your own and meeting strangers and then traveling with them. Thankfully things work out in the end, but there’s nothing in this book to teach kids of the dangers of what this child did.
Along the way, the child is introduced to underage drinking (not the child, but the teenagers in the book he is hanging out with) and learns new things about the female body. You get the impression that these things are normal and while they might be, these are not things I want my son learning about from a fictional book,
There is the subject of family coming together at the end, which is nice, but I don’t like the path this book took to get us there, considering the age group at which this book is geared.

The best part is Alex petroski and innocent four dimensional feeling that are completely true to everyone. The book is very written very well and the story will live with you forever.
The audio MADE this book and it’s the first time both of them begged for the audio and wanted more.
This was quite a cute book and I enjoyed it. Alex is a memorable character, and his obsession with space and Carl Sagan makes the book unique. The bonds he forms with the other characters in the book are realistic and uplifting, even if Alex' journey is a bit on the scary side. There are some great moments here that stay with you. This is a book kids and adults can enjoy.
easy to read for those who want to learn english by reading.
i actually didnt expect the ending will be like that but its fine i still like the book tho. i love how alex is described in this book. he is so innocent and brave at the same time. he's full of questions like normal kids. but sadly he's got to face all of those problems. :(

Five stars for the audiobook performance of this wonderful story. I didn't want it to end!
I listened to the audiobook, and the narration was just incredible! One of the best audiobooks I've ever listened to. Alex, the main character, is such a fascinating 11 year old boy who you immediately want to be friends with. If anyone kid, or adult ever needs a good audiobook, I highly recommmend this.

3.5 stars. Good story, interesting format, but I think a lot of the subtext would have gone over my head if I were a kid.
