I had seen several recommendations for this book, but it just doesn't work for me. I didn't find it to be very believable. There was certainly a strange collection of adults who interacted with Alex, and sometimes their behavior was terrible. I didn't like the inferences that could arise from Terra slipping off with various men, visiting Zelda's, etc.
As others have mentioned, the formatting at times could be tedious; I have to admit that at times I skipped strings because they seemed interminable. I understand that it could represent the way Alex talked, but sometimes it seemed that an entire page was one run-on sentence. There were some great conversations, though, and I laughed out loud when Alex took over Terra's cell phone.
As a former science teacher who frequently showed episodes of the original "Cosmos," it was a pleasure to read about a student who was so invested in astronomy.

Yet another life book for me. This book is so humane yet in the best way possible. The type of book I would read if I want to be comforted about life. I love how the portrayal of a young boy isn't annoying like how they often are. One of my favorite novel characters ever.

An interesting read. This is one of the books I volunteered to read for my library's Battle of the Books and I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a book about space travel and perhaps two friends seeing each other around the cosmos. What I got was a boy and his dog going on an adventure that started with launching a miniature rocket, and ended with the night before a big rocket launch.
If you have some time to spare and don't mind a little tugging at your heartstrings I would recommend this book. Follow Alex's adventure as he learns about truth, love, and bravery.

THIS BOOK. AHHH. LISTEN TO THE AUDIOBOOK IT'S SO GOOD.
This story from the perspective of a very precocious boy who loves astronomy books and his dog is both a little weird and also the kind of story that pulls at your heartstrings. Amidst the challenges in his life, he manages to find many good people, which is beautiful to see.

A sweet book about a boy, his idol, a rocket and a crazy story of how he travels, makes friends and finds family. The chapters are written like audiofiles, which was cool. But this boy sure talks a lot, he babbles about anything that comes to his mind and repeats stuff, which was sometimes tiring and annoying, but the innocent view of an 11-year-old was refreshing and some twists in the end made up for it.
