Aww, Alex is so adorable. I feel so bad for him he had to go through all of that. But at least he's remained positive amidst all those unfortunate things that happened. Alex's heart is so pure I want to give him lots of hugs.
This is an amazing book about a boy who learned to fend for himself and the support team when he pursues his dream.

This book must be an amazing audiobook! It's created for that format..

My kids and I all enjoyed this pretty well. The audio book is well done, with different actors for each character. The story was interesting, though I didn't like how adult it got a few times, with the adults yelling at the kids or starting to drink beer, etc. There was an accident that wasn't described in detail, but still gave my 9 year old daughter some worries. She had trouble sleeping after listening to that part. Overall I think it was a good book for maybe 11+. The main character, Alex, was very likable and I liked the format of the book through his ipod recordings.
"See you in the cosmos, carl sagan" is a book that explores the complexities of being and eleven year old who's "13 in responsibility years". Alex is an eleven year old aspiring rocket scientist with a distant older brother and mentally unstable mother. He's obsessed with making it to a rocket launching festival and recording his journey for any potential aliens that might find his golden ipod. This story really explores the boundaries of tween maturity. Alex continues to apply juvenile solutions to the complex adult problems he's facing. Great read.
I feel conflicted about this book. Positives: this is a unique story, chapters are recordings on his ‘golden’ iPod, interesting plot and characters, alternating first person narrative and script-like conversations overheard on iPod.
Negatives: I don’t believe in Alex’s voice. For s mature 11 year old, he knew deeply about rockets and science, how to cook and minimally clean. It felt like an adult author writing a middle grade kid narrator. But the running jokes got kinda old. It was an adult’s nightmare of an unattended child (Better Nate Than Never did something similar, but pushed it to comedic extreme and an aunt came in. Do I believe the plot was realistic: 0%. With action at the end of the book: ladder/mom’s truth exposed (no spoilers) it all became too much.
It was an enjoyable read, not too slow, but didn’t love Steve’s behavior, underage drinking (Terra was 19?), Terra being a bit of a manic pixie dream girl, and the willingness of adults to let the journey continue without stepping in to help this 11 year old who so freely told of his life story upon meeting others.

Erittäin mukava lukea, hyvin kirjoitettu lapsen näkökulmasta mikä on monesti aikuisilla vaikeaa, sillä monesti lapsihahmot, etenkin päähahmot, ovat aivan liian älykkäitä lapsiksi.

Alex has a dream to reach the stars. He records messages about life on Earth with his iPod. The plan is to send his iPod to space on his rocket. There is a rocket show competition where he is signed up to do so. Along the way he discovers more than he expected. And he gets by with a little help from his friends.
If you are a parent getting this book for a child, be forewarned that adult themes occur and an eleven year old kid has to figure out what to do. This is a mostly happy story. There are themes your child may want to ask you about. If you can borrow or buy the audiobook, listening to the story added to the experience.

JANUARY ARC REVIEW FOR CHANGING HANDS BIT PROGRAM
Although this book is for younger readers, it will appeal to a wide variety of ages. The character maintains a unique and youthful voice throughout the entire book, but the reader experiences very complicated and relevant issues that are handled beautifully within this novel, such as mental illness and abuse. Although this story is heartbreaking to read at times, the messages of family, love and coming of age will stick with you forever.
