This first book has set the stage for something truly epic, and I cannot wait to keep reading this series. The story was told similarly to Kvothe in Name of the Wind with the main character, Hadrian, narrating his tale from a future he keeps alluding to. And I realized this is a style that really works for me. The story took so many turns, and I loved whenever Hadrian would be like 'The plan was set. Too bad it would never happen.'

The world building is top-notch, I really enjoyed how the setting was presented. The prose is also very dense and melodramatic perfectly befitting Hadrians character.
