Man I really enjoyed this read. I think the author being a physician really made a difference for a reader who is also a medical professional. You could tell she actually knew what she was talking about and how to write medical scenes with accuaracy in not only terminology but sequencing, emotion, calculation, etc. Most authors who try to write a medical scene only get the terminology part right, the rest only can come from someone with in depth experience in medicine. The storyline was so different and unique. She kept her foot on the gas so you felt suspense throughout the entire book once it started. She also had a way of slowly seeping terror into her scenes in a way that you were caught off guard when all of a sudden you're scared as well. Whether from a physical description, reaction, or what. Such great writing. I can't wait to read some of her other books.
It was a good book. Fast, interesting plot that never felt dull or rushed. It had a really good pace that was easy to keep up with. Not too many distracting subplots. Overall, I guess I'd say that this is a 'plot' novel, more so than a 'character'novel. The characters are fine, but nothing special. There were a few parts in the book where I felt disgusted by choices made, but I feel as if it really added to the book and made it more realistic. The fact that the main character's name is Emma Watson who is a brunette was rather distracting, but I found it amusing. It wasn't as distracting in the second half of the book when they stop referring to her so much by her full name.
Overall, good book but not necessarily one that I feel compelled to read again.

The premise of this book is great, but the execution was a little lacking.
It was fine. A bit slow, but it might be due to the age of the book

An older book but scary to think about in the current political climate especially.

This was published in 1999 and it hits all the overly dramatic, so many sid plots, everything that can go wrong will go wrong, broken romance notes of all the 90s disaster movies.
Its author also shares the tendency toward "I know lots of technical info!" so prevalent later in Andy Weir's books.
The addition of Humphrey the cat to the story was unnecessary. Going to pretend Jack didn't likely neglect him to 💀 not that we know since the author clearly forgot he existed.
I liked the overall story, I liked severa of the characters well enough. But some decisions were just dumb and others unrealistic. Some plots felt anemic even after 400 pages and others felt overly complicated.
Just like so many 90s disaster movies.
