What a journey. I haven’t felt like this about a book since A Little Life…some stories just stay with you forever and this is definitely one I won’t forget.

Finally got around to finishing this book and I loved it. It was emotional and frustrating and thoughtful all in one. I only wish the ending wasn’t wrapped up so neatly.

I loved this. As I read The Great Alone, I was inspired, frustrated, sad, and curious. I'll share my favorite part of the book, but I seriously encourage everyone to read it. Kristin Hannah is so talented. Leni is such a complex character and yet so relatable, and her story is both tragic and beautiful.
"Sam Gamgee would never leave Frodo like this. No hero would ever do this. But books were only a reflection of real life, not the thing itself. They didn't tell you about boys who broke their bodies and had their brains sheared down to the stem, who couldn't talk or move or say your name. Or about mothers and daughters who made terrible, irrevocable choices. Or about babies who deserved better than the messed up lives into which they were born."
This book told a hard story, but one that is so worth hearing. I love books that challenge my POV of life, that leave me wanting to learn and love and just live life.
