I NEVER give rom coms 5 stars, but I must say I truly loved this one. It was just so much fun. I found myself looking for times to sneak away and read/listen so I could get to the next part.
This is only my second Emily Henry book, the first one I read Happy Place I didn't really love so I went into this one without the best outlook, I'm very happily surprised!
Daphne and Miles start as basic strangers who've met but don't really know each other. They are now roommates with nothing in common. After a disaster of a phone call they end up in a fake relationship. All the classic items of a rom com. I think though, my favorite thing about it is that Henry wrote us a great book without your typical "misunderstanding" trope. While there was some misunderstanding that does happen, it isn't the actual cause of the friction in that part of the book.
Overall we cover making new friends as an adult (so much harder than it should be!) we cover new relationships in our 30's, we cover figuring out how to deal with toxic parents, or to ignore toxic parents, whatever option is right, is just right. We also really cover how to truly find yourself and learn how to love yourself first and foremost.
Overall I loved this book, if this one became a movie and they did it justice, I'd probably watch it over and over. It's just a fun, happy, uplifting book. I loved the real way they spoke to each other, the sarcasm and jokes, and dealing with your problems like adults, after some wine and a bit of a temper tantrum when needed.
This is a book I recommend when you need something light, with a little bit of spice (appropriately placed within the story) Happy Reading.
