I liked this more than than Winnipeg, but I still feel like it couldve been shorter or SOMETHING đ but It was an easy audiobook to listen to and entertaining enough I'll try another book or two of hers before I throw In the towel
I can say that my first Zapata book is a contemporary book that i actually enjoy.
I would not have enjoyed this book as i had if it had been about any other sport.
Ive had a similar attachment towards football in the way that Sal had when she was a child, while i grew out of wanting to become the best football player the world had seen my admiration for the sport remains and this book reminded me why I love this sport so.
During the beginning the training of the Pipers felt nostalgic, through the girlsâ banter between each other and the feeling of rapture Zapata captures when you score a nasty penalty to the top corner. However, as Sal and Kultiâs friendship developed I noticed a reduction of focus of the teamâs dynamic, which overall took away from the focus on the sport itself- something that i thoroughly enjoyed.
Though there was little to no focus on gameplay and training after the beginning, Rey and Salâs friendship dynamic made up for it.
How Sal was able to read Reyâs physical mannerisms without him speaking. Reys overall character is unique in his silent âactions over wordsâ personality however i felt his past to be poorly developed and after spending 500 hearing âKulti Kultiâ i still know nothing about the man. I donât really care about his past but all i know of the man is that his drivers license was suspended because of DUI.
Despite this the character of Sal is admirable in the sense of what she has endured as a womenâs professional footballer. I acknowledge that Zapata included the stereotypes that pair with being a female that plays football by sal being referred to multiple times as a âlesboâ
I wonder if in those 5 years of marriage sals dad and kulti had a conversation.
We heard all this talk about sals brother but where is he and doesnât he find sals choice of friendship with the man to be insulting to him?
Who knows
Not bad, i like football âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸

The thing about reading a Mariana zapata book is that she makes you fall in love with the characters before they actually fall in love and thatâs one of the things I love about her as an author. This book was a fun read but also made me realize I might be into German accents?

Bruh, what was that writing. Does she have an editor? If so, she needs a new one. The character arcs were fine, but I couldnât get over the writing. Oh well.
The SLOW BURN!! Mariana Zapata is the queen of slow burns. It definitely took me a minute to get into but once I was prepared for the slow burn I was invested because Rey is very much a grumpy man who communicates in shrugs for a large portion of this book
Wow, can't get enough!
At this moment no words for this book. I could not put it down. The moment I started reading I was drawn into the story line. I loved the upfront, truth speaking, spit fire that was Sal. And Kulti, his hard to crack shell with moments of caring, what's not to love about the soccer star. The chemistry between these two was there from the start and I loved every chapter of their story.
