Gran libro.

Look at that, I read a MM without knowing it. Well, I knew it after reading a bit.

Anazar is a slave and gladiator. And then he gets "hired" to train female gladiators.

Some of the smex scenes bothered me. He is a slave. Someone tells him something so he does it. I am just not ok with that. That is not smexy to me.

It is not historically heavy, the author tries to get by on little (to me t least), but then it is a romance so it does not have to.

There was also a suspenseful part, well sort of. You will see.

Interesting, with a happy ending. Yes it is a romance, but I still did not think it could happen.

It fell short for me a couple of times. It felt like it was dragging me somewhere but not convincing me this is the right way.

I don't know, maybe I should reread the second half for better judgement, but for me it was not convincing or believable. Both the plot and the love story - which, of course, were intertwined.

Credit where credit's due - it was crazy hot, and if there are scenes I'll be rereading, these will be the ones.

What I liked most:
FELIX. Felix. He was adorable. Bestest character of the whole book.
Whilst I wasn't blinded by Felix in the scene, I tried focusing on the plot. It wasn't easy. Finer Roman politics got lost with me. I did not get a lot of it, but it was entertaining enough for me to finish it.
Because Felix.

My experience with Rome consists of watching a few episodes of Rome and Spartcus so I assumed that I would be lost in that culture. To my relief I found this not to be the case. The authors, Ms. Belleau and Ms. Vane paint a vivid picture of just what it mean to live in those days especially as a slave though they also showed me the privileges that the Roman citizens could expect. And I have to say that I regret the fact that bathhouses are just not found around the corner anymore.

I do have to say that as skilled as these ladies are in immersing their readers into the culture of the Rome, they do an even better job at bringing us into the hearts and mind of the characters.
Anazâr's goal is to make enough money to win his freedom but along the way he discovers love and loyalty. He becomes embroiled in the intrigue between two brothers, both masters and way above his station.

I fell in love with the characters in this book. They are all so vivid and, for lack of a better word, real. They are the product of their times yet I could easily see them fitting into this time especially
Anazâr and Felix.

I do want to warn my readers that there are some rather vivid scenes of sex between men so steer away from this book if that offends you. Otherwise if you are looking for an unusual historical love story you really can't go wrong with this book. It really has it all: mystery, intrigue, loyalty, both honor and dishonor, hot sex as well as love and friendship. Check it out! I give this book a 4.5.

*** I received this book at no charge from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed within are my own.

This book is a lot like Spartacus the TV series, but even gayer. I loved it!

You know, I can't say the subject matter would normally have caught my eye, but it was a pretty fun read!

This book turned out far better than I thought it would be. The debauchery in the beginning made me think I would hate it. But, it turned out to be a roller coaster of a tale that kept me reading. I really felt for the gladiatrices and Anazar and Felix, which was an amazing turn of events because at the beginning I hated him.

There's more to him than meets the eye. And I like that when Felix and Anazar meet its not love at first sight, in fact Anazar kind of hates him. Felix seems to be just a flighty, horny malcontent. But, he's more.

I thought it would be hard to have a happy ending in the book, but there was one and I was definitely fulfilled by it.

We even get to hear about what happens to the gladiatrices. Which made me grin.
