So cute, so cute, so cute!! This book had a little inception going on-- this secret music box world within our own much bigger and more complex world. I love all the books that Emily Rodda writes because to me, they have a sort of whimsy and uniqueness to them. This definitely does not disappoint.
I was a little hesitant to read it, but I was on a long 14 hour road trip, so I wasn't about to complain when my sister handed me some reading material to divert my mind from the boredom.
All in all, it's a cute read. Rodda puts in some awesome imagery details that really help the reader imagine the world as she did. Ah, yes the world building is fairly intricate for the intended audience. I was in heaven!! And inexplicably, I was drawn to Spoiler. His character as the bad guy really just intrigued me, more so than the main villain, the Blue Queen. And I loved Hal!!! So much!! All the characters were very likable and original. Definitely worth a shot reading to all you out there!

A quick fun read. I found the main characters to be a little dull at times, but they were realistic in their decisions considering they are still children and some of the other characters they ran into along the way were great. I loved the inclusion of all the elements of different fairy tales and enjoyed following along on Leo and Mimi's adventures. I also particularly liked seeing the cousin element, instead of the siblings/friends/love interest type of relationships that are often the case, and felt it really suited the story, especially being for a younger audience. Still not as great as Deltora Quest, but that will always hold a special place with me and I'm looking forward to picking up the rest in the series!

Absolutely amazing book. Complex but not too much that you have no idea what's going on, great characters and storyline. Definitely should read.

I picked up "The Key to Rondo" at a closing sale (sad) hoping for a nice little fantasy even if it was targeting a much younger audience then me. Unfortunately I felt as if the author was writing for a six year old, everything was spelled out, the 'twist' were just a flip flop of trust and miscommunication, and the antagonists plan/trap was so convoluted she had to know exactly how these kids she knew for forty seconds would react. The story wasn't absolutely horrible and went at a quick enough pace to not get bogged down. The allusions to different fairy tales were nice at points and a bit too forced at others. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone over the age of ten and won't be reading the rest of the series myself.
