Another great book in this series. This time Meg is in charge of the Christmas parade and things do not go as planned. Someone murdered Santa! Great read for the holidays. I can't wait for the next in the series!

It's Christmas time and Meg has been roped into planning the annual Holiday parade. Things seem to be running well when the old man playing Santa is found murdered. Turns out he was really a scrouge with his own secrets to keep rather than a Santa and more than a few people wanted to see him meet his end. Alongside her and the local police trying to solve the murder before Christmas, an out-of-town reporter is snooping around trying to ruin the town's good image. Meg has to balance trying to solve who killed Santa and get the nosy reporter to be nice and stay out of the way.

Full of holiday cheer, tidbits about A Christmas Carol, and Meg's excentric family. A nice quick mystery to curl up with for some holiday reading.

I listened to this a few books ago so my memory is not as fresh. Lesson learned: I will not start another book before writing up my thoughts on the one just finished.

I used to be the sort of person who could not read/watch/or listen to something out of season, so I would probably have stopped the series until Christmas to resume with this one, but, as I was downloading this for a road trip (though I started and finished this book before the trip started, so it was lucky I didn't end up needing an audiobook) I thought I'd keep on.

I did not mind the dissonance at all! (Who am I.)
The 'A Christmas Carol' tie-ins were numerous and cheery and always appreciated.
The fake partridge for when the real one became overwhelmed or fatigued.
The Boy Scouts involvement.
Learning that Chief Burke is black and a reluctant wiseman.
The mix of Christmas and holiday traditions.
The people in geese costumes mixed into the parade where they should not be.
Meg trying to snoop on the police interrogations in her home.
The shady, cynical journalist.
The suspense taking place at Michael's office.
Dad is Santa! And so like him and appropriate for his new role that he is making casts of cow legs to leave reindeer prints was endearing and creative!
Mother decking Meg and Michael's house and "reading the room" at the end of the book.
Eating the unwrapped cheese in the stable is lovely outdoor-cottage-core.
A bit intense that the children and Eric were so close to the murder.

I listened to the audiobook version and totally agree with this fellow commenter: "[the narrator] sounded much older than Meg Langslow, from whose point of view the story is told." This is why I struggled to be able to listen to these books for so many years.

I've always enjoyed this series and this one didn't disappoint. Meg and family make you laugh. One of my favorite cozy mystery series.
This time around Meg is in charge of the Holiday parade. And Santa gets killed. Lots of hijinx ensue.

This book was another good read. I'd give it a 3.5. I read the one that came after this one first so some of the suspects I knew would be innocent, but that was my fault not the books. I'm still on the fence for this author. I will read one more to see if I will try to read all of the series. Overall I like the author and books.

I actually really enjoyed this entry in the series. I felt that the Langslows were getting a little over the top in some of the recent entries, and it was getting jarring instead of interesting. This one is more toned down, which is surprising considering the main plot involves a curmudgeonly Santa Claus who is killed by (maybe) one of the geese in the Holiday Parade. I think it's the lack of family involvement--it's really just Meg and Michael, for the most part, with the remaining family members thrown in to spice it up instead of take over.
