My first ever "Harry Bosch" novel, also the first of Michael Connelly's works I've read. It was a bit of a mixed bag, but a good read overall. The main character comes off as cocky and arrogant at first, but I slowly started warming up to him. The story started off a bit slow but by the middle of the story the pace picked up quite significantly, only to end rather flatly. I found myself slightly underwhelmed by the ending which feels like it lacked a bit of closure, which was disappointing considering the build-up leading to the final few chapters. I might give the series another shot if I find a book that intrigues me.

As usual, Connelly keeps it moving. This, more than any other, really uses foreshadowing and flashback to create tension at the ending. Problem: it really uses foreshadowing and flashback to create tension at the ending. It didn't take long to realize where this one was going to end up.

You gotta love Harry Bosch. The Poet is back along with agent Rachel, no nonsense, Wallings. This was a nice follow up thriller to the Poet and a good way to get back into Michael Connelly and Bosch seris. The book read smooth and easy and quick. I enjoy the detective work the best and Connelly doesn't get overly dramatic or violent. And there's comfort in old friends like Harry. Maybe it's the hormones but I even teared up when he talked about his daughter. Good, enjoyable crime fiction.

Connelly never fails to hit the mystery adrenalin buttons with Harry Bosch, so I look forward to the next one.
