I took a total gamble on this book as fantasy is so far out of my normal genres, but I very much enjoyed it. If you’re someone that likes dark romance with a possessive MMC, you should check this out. The world building was super minimal and easy to follow, the storyline takes place in present day with names that I can actually pronounce.

Rape is rape. The only redeeming thing about this story is that Sin came in at the end like a Rhysand and makes me think there's hope for a true romance in the next book.

Spoilers
So I gave this book a try because of the many recs I saw on tiktok. From the very first paragraph I knew this wasn't going to be anything like what it's advertised. There were some enjoyable and funny quotes like:

"I think this is one of those rare occasions where running from your problems is encouraged."

"To her horror, I also have a predisposition for curves and none of the coordination necessary to ‘work them off.’"

What really made me instantly dislike the book was the lack of logic. MC said she had a bad feeling and wanted to walk, her friend said whatever we're driving you can walk and they got in an accident. Her friend immediately blames her saying "“The police didn’t find any evidence of tampering, but I know you did something! I don’t know what the hell is wrong with you, but you won’t get away with this. I’ve shown everyone in our grade your messages from that night. You will pay for this!”"

Like what backwards logic is this? Yes it's a little weird but jumping to premeditated murder of your best friends brother for no reason? And then she puts together a kidnapping gig to capture her former BFF and torture her while simultaneously calling her a witch? (Witches can just have premonitions.)  Plus these guys are in highschool! I just couldn't take anything seriously from that point on.

Later on me have a scene where MC doesn't own anything that's not "suggestive". It's all lace and sheer underwear. No woman has nothing but lingerie. If you want to wear something sexy then do it, or explain your internal debate about why you don't but will anyway. Don't push the story by having no choice in the matter because that's all you own.

our MMC doesn't really have many redeemable qualities or a personality other than Wattpad, self insert fanfic boy by an author that likes to be manhandled and abused. I mean our MC makes a fair trade for info on the enemy and it results in our MMC "grab(ing) my arm with a grip that is sure to leave bruises as he drags me down another alleyway." He's abusive and domineering in the worst possible way. And then to make matters worse, the MC makes excuses like how "he must not realize he's hurting me" and saying that's she's the problem for not feeling comfortable about accepting the bond yet.  Holly abuse victim batman!

The spice scenes were well written, and there is genuinely a really good plot line in there with and very interesting story. The world building could have been amazing but that wasn't what the author focused on. I did really like the cliffhanger though.

I  was expecting an actual story with plot, world building, and character development and got none of that. (Or at least poorly executed)

When I first started reading this book I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I am so very impressed with the world building and these characters. Vivian is so well written and although she tries to shut out the world you can tell she so badly wants something worth more. Leon is something I didn't see coming and I'm very interested to see where the next book takes us. This will get a special place on my bookshelf for sure!

I loved this!! (No spoilers)

First of all, read trigger warnings.
I really enjoyed this book. I love Vivian’s personality, it made the story better I felt. So much is happening, I can’t wait for book 2!
Fated mates, magic, and spice!

This book was my first time dipping my toes into fantasy. And what a fantastic book to start with.

It begins with Vivian in her younger years being saved from brushes with death by a ghost and trying to understand her ability to see ghosts. It goes on to Vivian needing to help those from another realm and her becoming the keeper of a destroyer. Following her and Leon in on their quest.

I couldn't put this book down and was so invested in Vivian's journey. The spice was
