My first book from my conversation with Iesha about her spiritual influences, and a wonderful start. Iesha told me I remind her of Calvin, and she relates most to Meg. A beautiful comparison, I would love to live up to Calvin's example. I love Meg, her powerful anger, and even more powerful love.
I read L'engle's Newberry Medal acceptance speech, and my respect for her grew. Her remarks on education are relevant to this day, I hope my program and cohort can push back on the trend of student muffinization L'engle points out in her speech.
Looking through her Wikipedia, I was intrigued, but not surprised to see that L'Engle believes in universal salvation. The universe of A Wrinkle in Time does not seem like one where people are eternally damned, even IT. Her belief got her banned from Christian bookstores, while at the same time she was criticized for the overt Christianity in her books. I say let the Christian woman write her Christian stories, she loves science, love, and humanity as much or more than any atheist I have come across.
