I listened to The Power of Vulnerability because I realized that I was judging Brené Brown without ever really listening to her. I'm not much for self-help books but I've always discounted Brené Brown. For some reason, I found her irritating and preachy, with simplistic claims that seemed like pop psychology to me. I've only ever listened to five minutes of one of her TED talks, so I had to ask myself why was I so against her?

But I am willing to admit that she may be onto something. I didn't disagree with the points she presented in this book. I still think she uses too many buzzwords but she is a good storyteller. Just because I have a problem accepting the qualitative nature of social science research doesn't negate the research. I may even listen to more of her books, with some healthy skepticism and an open mind.

I've heard Brene Brown's insights through the grapevine of self help circles for around three or four years now but never picked up one of her books until now. This was the perfect one to start with, and I listened to the audiobook where her strength in public speaking really shines. I can't say how much I loved it and how it's contributing to my healing journey! 5/5 stars.

According to the Goodreads rating system, 3/5 means that I liked the book. I would give this book a 4/5 based on my own rating system, but I'm trying to stick to Goodreads' system this time around, so 60% it is.

I was expecting a traditional, say-things-that-sound-good-but-don't-offer-any-concrete-advice self-help book, but this was more than that. (Don't get me wrong though - there were still plenty of vague soundbites sprinkled throughout). Brene Brown gave an in-depth and interesting talk on vulnerability, which is a topic I haven't necessarily thought about before. She is also surprisingly hilarious; there were several times that I laughed out loud.

I enjoyed this as an audiobook because Brown is a captivating speaker. However, I didn't like that this wasn't an audiobook in the traditional sense of the word; it was a recording of various sessions she led at a conference. There were certain things like facial expressions and body movements that the listener missed out on.

This is the best book I have read this year! I read it after the Ted Talk by the same name and I find the book very very true.

This Audio Series changed my life!

Brené always brings earth shattering research and insight. This audio book was all about Vulnerability; the lies, the hard truth, the barriers, and tips to grow in vulnerability.

The only thing for me about her teaching is that it is definitely tailored towards white people. Her metaphors and analogies all are very "white." There was a moment where she had the audience finish the song she started singing but I literally didn't know it and neither did any of the black people with me.

I love the storytelling that the author uses to bring to life 10 ways of being vulnerable and leading more meaningful lives. I laughed, I felt moved to tears and experienced moments of epiphany about ways I hide from vulnerability and the moments when I have shown courage. I highly recommend to those interested in reflecting on how to incorporate the learnings from Brown’s work into your own life. If however you wish to learn about the ideas and research that she is promoting I would suggest looking into her other books which she references throughout the series.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Brené and I found it to be funny, incredibly interesting and hugely relatable. I would highly recommend to listen to her warm and kind delivery over reading - she is a great storyteller with a clear message!
