Embrace the captivating saga of Into The Mist and brace yourself for the exhilarating journey that awaits in Out Of The Dawn. To truly grasp the intricacies of this gripping narrative, immersing yourself in the depths of Into The Mist is an absolute prerequisite. Understanding the characters, their perilous situation, and the unfolding events demands a foundation laid by the first book.

The relentless battle against the mist persists. Its ever-changing nature continues to wield profound influence, bestowing extraordinary powers upon some women while striking fear into the hearts of others. Remarkably, the mist's eerie impact extends to a few courageous men, a rarity given its lethal reputation. This pivotal shift dramatically alters the trajectory of the tale, thrusting our protagonists into uncharted territory.

Marvel at the awe-inspiring world meticulously crafted by PC Cast. Witness the sheer determination of these women as they construct their homes from the raw elements of mud and clay. They have metamorphosed into a resilient tribe, fashioning a new reality amidst adversity. Their profound connection to the earth and their reverence for it are profoundly moving. Their survival is not just a desire but a necessity, a testament to their unwavering spirit.

It covered various themes that were touched with delicacy but importance, and I liked watching the characters evolve and grow together. Although I liked the magic system, I didn't quite understand it and I still have the uncertainty of where the mist came from and what was its purpose. However, I still enjoyed the nail-biting suspense and the sisterhood of these characters.

DNF at 35%. Slow pace and there’s nothing going on minus setting up camp. The story isn’t pulling me in the way the first one did. I can’t keep listening for another 7.5 hours.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an advanced copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Out of the Dawn picks up right where Into the Mist left off: following our badass cast of women as they traverse their "new" world and embrace their oneness with nature. Just like book one, the story continues with plenty of action and twists, threading in themes of connection, heartbreak, healing, and femininity.

I seem to have gotten my wish after finishing book one, in that a major character is soon seen again. However, things are not always as they appear with the mist. The group uncovers new powers, while testing the limits with exposures to the mist. The old world, as they know it, is gone in more ways than one.

This book made me laugh, cry, and think deeply about my own connection to Mother Nature. I am hugely appreciative of the Paganism rep, including how it accepts and embraces fellow religions/gods/beliefs. The feminism in Out of the Dawn was on point, once again, with the women forging their own path forward--free of the previous patriarchy.

Mostly, this story is about hu[man]ity reaping its karma, and Mother Earth empowering women to lead and retake ownership of their divine feminine power, using peace, love, and strength to rule with the land instead of against it.

[There are a few trigger warnings, most notably sexual assault. It is not depicted in great detail, but it does occur during the book, and is fairly violent. There is a focus on healing, support, and justice following. In my opinion, it is a necessary component of the book, serving a purpose to show the contrast of the old world--how privileged men would take anything they wanted--and the new world, ran by women who refuse to be taken from. It was so utterly heartbreaking, but written with taste and purpose.]
