Great volume, adding a whole new arc to the story. I'm interested to see where it goes from here.
Spoiler
hope Carl gets killed by the zommer people!
Life is good at Hilltop, society is being rebuilt and there is a focus on the day to day. Some may find this boring, but I like that Kirkman continues to try and explore what comes after the apocalypse - after all, it states on the back of every volume "In a world ruled by the dead, we are forced to finally start living." So it's almost as if we are back to a holding pattern, (because if past volumes have taught us anything - nothing lasts forever). That said, this volume isn't all sunshine and roses, there is some heavy stuff, new characters and a couple of downright cringe-worthy, WTF moments. We learn more about the Whisperers and not that it's a surprise to anyone - the apocalypse heightens some peoples dickhead factor...
My last thoughts for this volume is that I can't help but think this is the calm before another storm...I have volume 24 waiting for me so I guess it won't take long to find out.

It would've been nice to see some zombies in it, but alas. The previous volume began to set up a strong reboot, and this one just sort of rides the momentum without creating much. Still, it builds on the characters and I've learned to love again after the last arc left me a heartless husk, so that's a good move. Also, they decision to leave Rick completely out of it while something is clearly going on down there is clever as well. When we catch up with Rick, I'll be surprised if it hasn't gone to hell.
“I promise, nothing will happen to you while I’m around.”
“I’ll hold you to that.”
I just really love Carl’s character and want to protect him! And I’m scared he’s going to have the same fate as tv show Henry! His friendship with Sophia has come a long way and its really cute. Lydia was...interesting. Kinda (really) weird with Carl. And now he’s off to go find her.

In the first few volumes I didn't fully understand the point of having it all in black and white but, especially with this volume, I both understood and appreciated it. The black and white art work allows there to be a feeling of distance between the reader in the present and the characters surviving years into the zombie apocalypse. What makes the Walking Dead unique is that it gives insight into the "what now?" at the end of the typical apocalypse film. This particular volume is even further down the road, years since the first onset. I appreciated that there was a time gap, allowing the characters, especially the younger ones, time to age and mature. Because Rick's group has grown so much, the story jumps around allowing the reader to see into what everyone is doing, building on the suspense of when shit finally hits the fan (as it always does). Really enjoyed this volume and I look forward to the future issues.
