Oh rusting Earth, what to say about this book? I've just finished it and I may need to let it sit for a bit and return for a review later instead of just heaping on superlatives. Starting it was like meeting up with the best of old friends and learning what they've been up to in all the time since you last spoke. It continues the beautiful world-building of the first book. The author is stunning in her creativity.

Much like the first book (The Fifth Season), there is never a dull moment. I am with Essun and Nassun in every moment of triumph, grief, annoyance, and every emotion in between. Jemisin's writing is the peak of world-building, lore, and deep emotion. You'll feel things you didn't even know you could.

The second book in the trilogy and there is still so much going on. I love Jemisin’s world building, and this story is gripping. In book two we return to Essun as she is waiting out the end of the season, when she crosses paths with an old friend. This book took me through the feels. I can’t wait to dive into book three.

Damn you, N.K. Jemisin. I can't get a rusting thing done around here until I find out how all this ends!
