Much like the first book (The Fifth Season), there is never a dull moment. I am with Essun and Nassun in every moment of triumph, grief, annoyance, and every emotion in between. Jemisin's writing is the peak of world-building, lore, and deep emotion. You'll feel things you didn't even know you could.

The second book in the trilogy and there is still so much going on. I love Jemisin’s world building, and this story is gripping. In book two we return to Essun as she is waiting out the end of the season, when she crosses paths with an old friend. This book took me through the feels. I can’t wait to dive into book three.

Damn you, N.K. Jemisin. I can't get a rusting thing done around here until I find out how all this ends!

What a great follow up to the fifth season!
I really enjoyed the book! Didn’t give it 5 stars because it felt a little slower with less big revelations and heartbreak. But it was still an amazing read and I cannot wait to read the last book of the trilogy!

The beginning is kind of slow and I had a hard time grasping the passages of time in this book but wow the world building keeps getting deeper and deeper. The paths Essun and Nassun are on getting more and more fascinating very excited to read the final installment ! Highly recommend for readers who really appreciate deep world building
