a masterpiece of comics. i always like the limited runs because they can tell a complete, self contained story, and can often expand on their themes and go farther with the characters than the main runs. this book has intelligent criticisms on the dangers of a police/surveillance state in the name of safety, grief, coming to terms with a changed world, and figuring out how you fit into those changes.
it’s got great character beats. I especially loved seeing how the rogues gallery has changed in ten years. I’m a sucker for the rogues being friends or having their own individual relationships with each other unrelated to batman, something we don’t get to explore in depth very often.
my only criticisms would be you have to suspend your disbelief a tiny bit to accept to premise of the book- i don’t really think the rogues would give up their crusade just bc it was outlawed, or just because batman wasn’t there to fight them. it leans into the implication that batman’s resources could be better spent elsewhere, which im not a fan of. you have to accept gotham as a self contained universe, and not ask where tf superman, or red hood, or tim are. but also, you need to suspend your disbelief for any comic, so it’s not a huge ask. i also feltthe riddler and catwoman’s relationship could have been developed more thoroughly.
this is an example of a master of the medium. having one person do every part of the comic really shows how they can all work in perfect harmony to support the story- from the colours, to the panel layout, to the lettering being a part of the art. the character designs are great, i love how they’ve all visibly aged. i would highly recommend this comic.

One of my favorite reads this year, this is such a great story. I loved all the characters and the realistic, but still-comic-book feel of the story. It's both sad and hopeful, with just really fun found family elements. Highly recommend, even if you don't care about the Batman universe or characters at all.
Obviously very good art, but also I enjoyed the story! A future, older Catwoman who seems to be written as an actual older Catwoman- still capable, but not as perfect in her heists. Fun aging other characters. Yeah, this was very fun.

Theres so much to love about this. Seeing these characters age and feel like real people, the streetwear, the easter eggs, and the color palette of each page. Well done!

This was really fun and reflective, and Chiang's artwork is so nostalgic. You really get a feel for the past and what's been lost in just a few issues.
